This rewarding course is designed to help you develop your observational, technical, and creative abilities by drawing the human form. It will help you to acquire the fundamental principles of drawing from the life and provide the means for you to develop a personal style.
This 9 week course is most suitable for students with some previous general drawing experience. It will help you develop your observational and expressive drawing skills using a variety of media. Guidance will be given on materials, proportions, construction, and modelling form. There will be opportunity to experiment with different media and techniques.
What to bring
An A3 or A4 sketchbook and soft graphite, charcoal or conté pencils are also useful for sketches.
Natural willow charcoal, A3 size medium grain cartridge paper for larger drawings, masking tape, putty rubber, and fixative. Boards and chairs are provided. Other media will be suggested during the course.
Recommended Materials:
For short poses: A3 size Medium Surface Field Sketch Pad (Spiral bound 96gsm)
For long poses: – A2 size Winsor & Newton Medium Surface Drawing Pad (Gummed 130gsm)
Pencils- 4B, 6B
Natural (not compressed!) charcoal: Nitram Fine Art Charcoal: Petits Bâtons – Soft Round 6 mm and Nitram Académie Fusains HB (Medium). This is excellent charcoal that can be sharpened with a craft knife and will not break easily. They come in boxes of 5 sticks and are available online from Jackson Art.

*Booking conditions: Places are limited to 12 students per workshop. Allocation will take place on a first come first served basis, subject to receipt of full non-transferable and non-refundable payment. Nottingham Art Studio reserves the right to withdraw the course. In this eventuality, you will be notified and fully refunded. No refunds can be given for any sessions not attended.
NB. Because group sizes are kept small (with a maximum of 12 places), bookings can only normally be taken from students who wish to attend the whole course.
